Sally enjoys weaving in her
studio at the Brown County Weavery. She creates rugs using rags and waste
from textile manufacture and scarves, shawls, ponchos, wraps and ruanas out
of natural and synthetic yarns.
While growing up in Evansville, she wove looper
potholders and peddled them in her neighborhood. Later, while living in
Minnesota, with the intention of being close to nature, she attended a
weaving class at St. Paul YWCA and was inspired to have weaving be a part of
her life. In 1980, she attended Southern Illinois University and studied
Botany and Outdoor Education and in 1991 continued studies at Indiana
University in Latin American History and Political Science.
With this knowledge, she has
pursued natural dyeing of wool, organic cotton yarns using plants that grow
in Brown County.
