Ronni Lynn Hayes is a sixth generation Brown County native, who comes from a
family of craftspeople and distinguished artists. She began painting in oil 15
years ago, studying at Herron School of Fine Art and The Indianapolis Art
Center. She has recently begun painting
on silk, utilizing a variety of techniques, including shibori, serti,
monoprinting and freehand painting, after coursework offered by Mary
Pendergrass at the Brown County Historical Society's
Traditional Arts Program.
Ronni's art is largely inspired by organic subjects, especially those found
in nature. While this includes traditional woodland landscapes and riotous
flowers, she is currently working on a series of paintings inspired by
photos from the Hubble telescope.
Ronni took her undergraduate studies
at Indiana University, with a major in Communication and at Lighthaven
Interfaith Seminary, becoming ordained as an interfaith minister. She has
completed approximately one half of her coursework towards a Master of
Divinity degree, with emphases in Spirituality and Writing
at Earlham College School of Religion.
In addition to membership in the
Brown County Craft Gallery, Ronni also belongs to the Brown County
Artisans, whose mission is to build an independent traditional arts school
in Nashville. She owned and operated her own gallery in town from
2006-2008 and participates in periodic art fairs, solo shows and
juried competitions. Ronni shares a home and studio in Nashville with
husband Bill and four legged friends, Ruby and Lily. She has one adult
son, Jeremy David Brattain, a glass blowing artist.
